School of Sanctuary

At Brackenbury, we are committed to becoming a school of sanctuary.

A School of Sanctuary is a school committed to being a safe and welcoming place for everyone, particularly those seeking sanctuary.  We foster a culture of inclusion and support, helping students, staff, and the wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary. We aim to actively work to create an environment where everyone feels valued and accepted, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Warm Welcomers Group

A group of children have been working with our headteacher to make sure refugees feel welcome.

The children have decided to make a booklet for children who join our school with lots of pictures that let new children, including refugees, know all the important places and people.  They feel this will help children to feel welcome.

They also helped to redesign our foyer so it is welcoming for refugees.

The Warm Welcomers will become buddies for children when they start school.

The Power of Stories

We have a great selection of books and stories that are available to read so we can better understand what it is to be a refugee.  There is a box of books that is shared around each class and we have lots of other books that are available each day.
