Mental Health and Wellbeing
At Brackenbury we are committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of our children. We know that wellbeing, physical and mental health are all vital to successful learning and children’s happiness.
Mental Health Champions
For the second year running, we have been taking part in the Mental Health Champions project run by the YMCA DownsLink. Our Mental Health Champions have been meeting every few weeks with leaders from the YMCA to talk about mental health. They have worked together to identify areas of Brackenbury that they think could be improved, in order to improve the mental health of all our children.
This year they chose how they could make the playground even better and carried out observations of safe and unsafe play in the playground going on to create Golden Rules and putting forward the idea of a calm corner. They have also presented an assembly to the whole school about mental health and the work they have been doing.
The Mental Health Champions were invited to a celebration at Ralli Hall where they joined the other Mental Health Champions from all over the city to celebrate their achievements. This year, the children had their own stall and took part in a scavenger hunt to visit all of the other stalls and find out what projects they had been working on.
