VISION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
At Brackenbury Primary School, we aim to develop children’s skills of enquiry. We are a diverse multi-faith school, offering a varied curriculum to reflect this. Children are taught about a range of religions celebrating each one. Children learn to respect and ask questions about different religions, traditions and cultures around the world. Across the school year we aim to make R.E relevant by celebrating real events, such as Diwali. We believe children learn best from real experiences in order to capture their imagination and encourage their curiosity. Children are taught to think about our School Core Values and their own personal values in understanding how people of different backgrounds or beliefs may share similar values, whilst differing in others.
At Brackenbury, we strive to inspire children through sustained shared thinking around life’s big questions, explored through a range of religions and worldviews. Building on Early Years foundations in understanding the world, we nurture the skills children need to question, debate, compare, and critically evaluate diverse perspectives. Our aim is to empower pupils to become curious, independent thinkers who can thoughtfully engage with the beliefs and ideas they encounter throughout life.
We encourage respectful inquiry into different religions, traditions, and cultures, fostering a sense of global awareness and empathy. Throughout the school year, we make Religious Education meaningful and relevant by celebrating real-world events such as Diwali and Christmas, helping children connect their learning to the world around them.
Our scheme of work has been developed following the Brighton and Hove syllabus guidance.
