RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (RE) AT BRACKENBURY

We are tolerant and aware individuals

At Brackenbury, we aim to engage children in sustained shared thinking about significant questions which are addressed through different religions and world views. By building on from Early Years work about understanding the world, we aim to support children to develop the skills that they need to question, debate, compare and critically assess different answers to the ‘big’ human questions. We believe that the skills we equip children with at this age will enable them to go into the world as curious and independent thinkers who are able to appraise and consider any views they are exposed to. Children learn to respect and ask questions about different religions, traditions and cultures around the world. Across the school year we aim to make RE relevant by celebrating real events, such as Diwali.

The Discovery scheme of RE work provides a solid structure for delivering a wide range of subject content covering six of the world’s principal religions. The scheme guides teachers through the enquiry process, starting in the children’s experience, venturing into the world of religion and back into the child’s map of the world.
