Welcome to Brackenbury Primary School

We are delighted to welcome you to Brackenbury Primary School.  Our fantastic school community could not be prouder to welcome you to our Brackenbury family.

If this is your first child starting school, we will support you every step of the way and will be here to answer any questions you may have.  If you have done this before, we are still here for you!  I know how important the first year of school is and we want you to get the most out of it!

We have planned out key events for your transition - stay and play dates to meet your new teacher and teaching assistant, Teddy Bears picnic to meet some of our parents and a welcome session for you all.  However, during this lockdown period, we do have alternative plans in place and whatever happens, we will make sure we do everything we can to help you and your child be ready for September.

What do you need to do?

We need you to fill out the form accepting the place at Brackenbury.  You can do this electronically or you can fill this in by hand and post it. Alternatively, you can bring it to the school office, situated in our beautiful old building,as part of your daily exercise.  Most importantly, we need a current email address so we can send you any changes and further information you need.  Both the welcome letter and forms are linked below on this page.

In the meantime, please see what we have been up to by looking at the school closure pages of our website - our community may be remote but it is still going strong.

I hope to see all of you very soon.  In the meantime, take care and stay safe.

Lizzie Mullarky

Getting ready for school

Starting school is an exciting time for children and their families.  Our local Portslade schools have produced a document to help get you ready.  It lets you know things you can do before joining us in September.  Click here to see the booklet.  We hope it will give you some ideas of how to prepare your child.

Our Early Years Review 2020

We are delighted that a review commisioned by the local authority in February 2020 found the following strengths in our Early Years provision.

  • The quality of the teaching of reading
  • The well planned and inviting learning environment which enabled the children to continue their learning independently and with enthusiasm.
  • The teacher’s professional reflection on her teaching in her first year.
  • The children’s behaviour for learning and their enthusiasm for learning as demonstrated in the phonics session and across the learning environment.
  • The systematic routines of the day which the children understood and knew well.
  • Expectations of behaviour on the carpet session.
  • The support the NQT is receiving from the school.

Our parents said

"I am so proud of my son. He is learning so quickly."

"My daughter is really good at writing now."

"We've seen great academic progress and pastoral care.  The focus on reading confidence has really helped."
