WELCOME MORNING

Our welcome morning takes place on Tuesday 28th June, 2022.  There you will meet your teacher and the whole school team that support Reception.  Your children will meet each other, have an opportunity to be in their new classroom and you will have the chance to find out about school in your child's first year.  Key information is found in the ABC of school life.  A copy can be found here.

STAY AND PLAY SESSION

On Friday 8th July, you and your child can come and have a play session in the Reception class so you get to know and familiarise yourself and your child with the Reception environment.  The session is from 9.30-10.30am.

UNIFORM

Uniform is available from the school office at any point during the opening hours 8.45-4pm.  It is best to avoid the beginning and end of the school day as you may need to wait longer at these times.

READING

Reading is key to our curriculum.  As OFSTED stated in our March inspection, "Reading is at the heart of the curriculum."  The children will be learning to read through using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds scheme.  If you would like to find out more about it.  Please follow this link

TALKING

At Brackenbury, we are really focused on developing your children's vocabulary and ability to communicate.  This is done through a curriculum which offers your child first hand experiences and investigative play through a well-planned and structured environment indoors and out.

For writing, we use the Talk for Writing programme that is based on talk and retelling stories.

MATHEMATICS

We use the NCETM to teach children's understanding of maths.  This approach ensures that children have a very solid  understanding and have a good basis for maths in their following years at school.

The link below sets out the basic principles.
